For any material — PTFE, silicone, polypropylene, nylon — the TDS is your best friend. Compare: tensile strength, elongation at break, temperature range, UV stability. A logo tells you nothing. A spec sheet tells you everything.

Step 3: Ask About Production Origin Before Finalizing

This was accurate as of early 2025. The polymer supply chain changes fast, so verify current sourcing details before ordering.

I learned this in 2023 after ordering PTFE sheet from a distributor who claimed to supply "Hanwha products." The packaging had the hanwha website URL, the material looked right — but the batch traceability was off. We later discovered the PTFE was produced at a different facility than what our quality audit had approved.

Not all factories produce to the same standard. For critical applications (aerospace, food-grade, medical-adjacent), you need to know: which plant is this coming from? Is it ISO 9001 certified? Has the specific production line been audited?

Step 3.5 (The One Everyone Misses): Confirm Lot-to-Lot Consistency

This is the step that gets skipped most often. You order 500 sheets of polycarbonate. They perform well. You reorder 1,000 sheets. This batch warps differently, colors slightly off, or machines differently.

The question I ask now: "Can you guarantee batch-to-batch consistency, and what is your protocol if the new lot doesn't match the original sample?"

For commodity materials like PP (polypropylene) or PVC, slight variations are common across production runs. For engineering plastics like polycarbonate or nylon, any variation can cause downstream problems. Common Mistakes & What to Watch For
